Why The Curiosity Fund Exists

The Curiosity Fund is where the explore4knowledge story began.

Founded in 2011 as a non-profit organisation, our mission has always been to create meaningful educational, conservation and community impact through exploration.

As explore4knowledge has grown into an international expedition company, that mission has never changed.

Today, every journey we deliver helps support programmes that protect natural environments, expand educational opportunities and empower local communities.

For organisations beginning their ESG journey, the Curiosity Fund also provides an established platform through which meaningful, measurable and professionally managed impact can be created from day one.

Because we believe every expedition should leave something behind.

Curiosity changes lives.

HOW THE MODEL WORKS

Unlike traditional charities or travel companies, the Curiosity Fund operates through a sustainable model where commercial travel, corporate partnerships and charitable giving work together to create long-term impact.

Every journey becomes an opportunity to support something greater.

Where We Create Impact

Where We Create Impact

The Curiosity Fund focuses on four interconnected areas that create lasting change. Every project, partnership and expedition contributes towards one or more of these pillars, ensuring that exploration leaves a positive legacy for people and nature alike.

Communities

Creating Opportunity Through Learning

Education sits at the heart of everything we do. From mobile classrooms and environmental education to scholarships and expedition learning, we believe curiosity is the beginning of every future conservation leader.

Conservation

Working Alongside Local People

Long-term conservation is only possible when local communities are empowered. We work with schools, youth groups, traditional leaders and community organisations to create projects that deliver lasting value where it matters most.

Curiosity & Research

Inspiring Discovery

Exploration creates understanding. Through citizen science, scientific expeditions and research partnerships, we help connect people with the natural world while contributing meaningful environmental knowledge.

Measuring What Matters

Every number represents a learner inspired, a community supported, a landscape restored or a partnership built.

For more than fifteen years, explore4knowledge has measured success not only by where we travel, but by the positive impact that remains long after every expedition ends.

More Than A Foundation

The Explore4Knowledge Fund is more than a charitable foundation.

It is an active delivery partner within the wider Explore4Knowledge ecosystem, connecting organisations, conservation partners, educators and communities through projects that create measurable, long-term impact.

For many organisations, one of the biggest challenges isn’t deciding to make a difference—it’s knowing where to begin.

Building trusted partnerships, identifying credible projects, developing governance, managing logistics and measuring impact can take months or even years.

We’ve already done that work.

Through the Explore4Knowledge Fund, organisations can immediately connect with established conservation, education, humanitarian and community initiatives that are already delivering measurable outcomes across Africa.

Whether you already have a project you’d like to strengthen or you’re looking for the right place to begin, the Fund provides a trusted platform that transforms ambition into meaningful action.

Not every organisation arrives with a project.

Every organisation leaves with an opportunity to create lasting impact.

We don’t simply build expeditions.

We build partnerships that continue long after the expedition ends.

EDUCATION

Learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Education has always been at the heart of explore4knowledge.

Through mobile classrooms, environmental education, STEM programmes, scholarships and expedition-based learning, we create opportunities that connect curiosity with real-world experience.

Our aim isn’t simply to teach people about nature.

It’s to inspire the next generation of scientists, conservationists, explorers and leaders.

Strong communities create lasting conservation.

Meaningful conservation only succeeds when local communities benefit alongside nature.

Through youth leadership, water security, infrastructure support, health initiatives and long-term partnerships, we work with communities to develop practical solutions that continue long after expeditions have ended.

Impact is strongest when it is locally owned.

Built Through Partnership

Creating meaningful impact is never the work of one organisation alone.

For more than fifteen years, explore4knowledge has worked alongside NGOs, conservation organisations, schools, universities, local communities, governments and responsible corporate partners to design and deliver programmes that create measurable, long-term impact.

Today, much of that work is delivered through the explore4knowledge Curiosity Fund—our registered non-profit foundation dedicated to education, conservation, research and community development.

Whether restoring freshwater ecosystems, delivering mobile classrooms, supporting scientific research or developing youth leadership programmes, every project succeeds because of the people and organisations working together.

These are just some of the partners helping us turn curiosity into lasting impact.

Every Great Expedition Leaves Something Behind.

Every programme, expedition and partnership leaves a legacy.
Sometimes it’s knowledge shared with a young learner.
Sometimes it’s a river restored.
Sometimes it’s new scientific understanding.
Sometimes it’s a community empowered to shape its own future.

And sometimes…
it’s a moment that changes the way someone sees the world forever.

The voices below come from people who have travelled with us, partnered with us and worked alongside our team over the past fifteen years.

Their stories remind us that the greatest measure of impact isn’t found in reports or statistics.

It’s found in people.

The greatest measure of impact isn’t found in reports or statistics. It’s found in people.

Voices From The Field

Every journey leaves a different legacy.

For more than fifteen years, explore4knowledge has worked alongside educators, conservationists, scientists, corporate partners, communities and travellers from around the world.

Every programme creates a different story.

These are just a few of the voices that continue to inspire ours.

“We came looking for an ESG project. We found a long-term partner.”

“The relationships we build in the field become the foundation for lasting impact.”

“I arrived expecting an adventure. I left seeing conservation, education and leadership in a completely different way.”

Long-Term Partner

“We’ve worked together for many years because the focus has never been on one project. It’s always been about building something that lasts.”

— Strategic Partner

Corporate Partner

“Our original objective was to create an ESG programme. What we found was a team capable of delivering something far more meaningful—real participation, measurable outcomes and relationships that continue long after the project ended.”

— Sustainability Director

Conservation Partner

“The strength of explore4knowledge lies in its ability to connect people with conservation in a way that feels authentic. Participants don’t simply visit projects—they become part of them.”

— Conservation Partner

Community Partner

“The most successful projects are those built with communities, not for them. That philosophy is visible in every programme we have shared together.”

— Community Programme Leader

Educator

“Our learners didn’t just receive a lesson. They experienced science, conservation and exploration in a way that textbooks simply cannot provide.”

— School Principal

Expedition Participant

“I thought I was joining an expedition. I left with a completely different understanding of conservation and my own role within it.”

— Expedition Participant
